Indika Organics uses natural fibers and low-impact dyes, and many of their fabrics are woven at their Montana mill. Untreated fabrics are used in their Malabar Puna Matlasse collection (organic cotton and hemp blend, $79/yard) and Valley View collection, including: Summer's Peak (raw hemp, $36/yard) and Sandstone (cotton and hemp, $68/yard; www.indikaorganics.com, 800-458-3106).

Maharam has two versatile, finish-free upholsteries: Mix (a wool/rayon blend, $95/yard) and Queue (wool, rayon, recycled wool and recycled rayon, $105/yard). Sold by The Conran Shop (212-755-9079; not available online).

In addition to fabrics, the companies below sell new furniture that's upholstered without chemical finishes, and offer reupholstering services, using least-toxic materials ($1,900-$3,000 for a sofa, not including fabric or shipping). Worth considering if you can't find what you want locally.

A Natural Home's hemp, canvas, organic cotton and handwoven (non-organic) Mexican fabrics range from $12 to $25 a yard, with a minimum order of 10 yards (www.anaturalhome.com, 877-867-5890).

Furnature sells organic cotton, linen or hemp for $25 a yard (www.furnature.com, 800-326-4895).
