It's a Wrap
Even Santa's elves appreciate gifts wrapped with recycled love. Comics are favorites, but outdated maps, yellow pages and finished coloring-book pages also look spiffy. For the giftwrap-challenged (how do they do corners, anyway?), consider hiding the lootit's more fun than finding dyed eggs in the grass!
If you love reusable gift bags, why not make the bag the gift? Check out the funky grocery totes called Basura Bags made from recycled juice packs, from Reusable Bags ($15.95; www.reusablebags.com). Or give a recycled-rice-sack messenger bag from Eco Bags ($48; www.ecobags.com).
Fish Lips Paper Designs' fashionable, responsible giftwrap is made from 100-percent post-consumer product, like the Chilly Dogs pattern of antlered dachshunds alongside snowcapped hydrants ($4/22-in. x 33.75-in. sheet; www.fishlipspaperdesigns.com). The mod motifs counter what owner Kimi Rutkin sees as the stereotypical brown-bag recycled-paper look. "There was really no reason that there should be this gap between a cool, hip aesthetic and a recycled product," Rutkin says.
With all these options to choose from, we're certain that your holidaybe it Hanukkah, Christmas, Kwanzaa or Winter Solsticewill be greener and more meaningful.
