- Integrated Pest Management (IPM)
- A pest control strategy that focuses on prevention and intervention to reduce pest problems, and aims to reduce, and even eliminate, the use of synthetic pesticides. IPM strategies deprive pests of entry and food sources; they include planting local plant varieties that naturally strive under local environmental conditions and instituting beneficial insects and microorganisms to control pest populations.
- Irradiation
- This process uses electron beams or radioactive substances to kill pathogens, retard sprouting or spoiling, and otherwise prolong transit time and shelf life in meat, eggs, grain, produce, and spices.
- Isopropanol
- Also referred to as isopropyl alcohol and rubbing alcohol, isopropanol is a potent central nervous system depressant that can cause headaches, dizziness, nausea, vomiting and eye, nose and throat irritation.
