Glass cleaners can help make your home sparkle, but many contain ammonia, which can irritate eyes, nose, throat and lungs, and threatens aquatic populations (read more in The Backstory). The best way to ensure the safety of glass cleaners--and to save money--is to make one at home. Fill your own spray bottle with water and either one fourth cup of white vinegar or 1 tablespoon of lemon juice to wipe away greasy fingerprints and other hard-to-remove spots.
