Recycled PlasticThe Green Guide is a resource for information on recycled plastic. Not all plastics are recycled. Local municipalities have different laws for what they collect (check with your local city government). Generally, #1 (PETE) and #2 (HDPE) are most often collected and recycled. However, most recovered plastic containers aren't recycled back into recycled plastic containers, but rather made into textiles, parking lot bumpers, or recycled plastic lumber - all unrecyclable products. This does not reduce the use of virgin materials (petrochemicals) in plastic packaging. To learn more about recycled plastic, what recycled plastic products are there in the market today, what recycled plastics products are best for food storage and what are not, what plastics are most recyclable and which are not, and where to get recycled plastic products including recycled plastic lumber for benches, etc, read the articles linked to below.
