When packing for overseas travel, think ahead about your health needs. Depending on the locale, remember to include:

- Personal prescription medications (copies of prescriptions and notes for controlled substances and injectable medications)

- Pain and fever reliever

- Antidiarrheal medication, antibiotic for severe diarrhea

- Antibacterial ointments or creams, hydrocortisone cream

- Anti-malarial medication

- EpiPen for allergic reactions

- Water-purification tablets and/or water filter

- Insect repellent and bed netting

- Sunscreen and gel for sunburns

- Basic first-aid items (bandages, gauze, ace wrap, antiseptic, tweezers, scissors, cotton applicators)

- Rehydration salts

- Sanitary hand cleanser
